Katy Perry Says Madonna Was Inspiration for “Part of Me” Film

Katy Perry has cited Madonna as a big influence, especially on her “Part of Me” 3-D concert movie, which hits theaters July 5. Perry says the film was partially inspired by the Queen of Pop’s 1991 film “Truth or Dare.”

In a recent interview with Teen Vogue, the always-colorful starlet spoke about her upcoming big-screen adventure and how “Truth or Dare” led to its creation.

“Madonna is everything to me, and that movie is amazing, because it caught her at a time when she was a bit more vulnerable,” Perry said of the film, which chronicled the icon’s Blond Ambition Tour. “I wanted to do that too, to capture a snapshot of who I am now so that I can remind myself what I’ve lost if I ever do become totally jaded.”

On Tuesday, the trailer for the anticipated flick surfaced. In the two-minute preview, Katy’s rise to stardom remains a key theme of the film as flashback footage and photos of the singer’s younger days is shown.

Carly Rae Jepsen has snagged some recent success and recognition for her “Call Me Maybe” single, released under Justin Bieber’s label. But now the Canadian singer has revealed that she is collaborating on a track with Bieber himself.

“We collaborated on one song together, but in general, I was blown away by Justin,” Jepsen said to MTV News. “He’s so down-to-earth and very charming and very talented. It’s still a little top-secret, but it’s going to be coming out soon, I hope. It’s a really lovely song. The way he presented it was pretty cool. It was my first time meeting him. I was at the studio, and he basically just said, ‘What do you think of this song?’ and I was like, ‘Wow, I love it.’ “

From there, the “Boyfriend” singer asked her to collaborate on it, and she happily accepted the offer. “It’s pretty stripped-down,” she said. “It’s pretty casual. It’s not too dance-y; it’s more intimate. It’s a duet.”

Police investigating the death of Whitney Houston recovered traces of cocaine in the Beverly Hills hotel room where the pop diva died last month.

Documents from investigators do not reveal the quantity of the drug found but say simply that among the items recovered by police was “white, powdery remnants.” The powder tested positive for cocaine.

The L.A. County coroner revealed last week that accidental drowning was the official cause of Houston’s death, adding that cocaine use and heart disease were also contributing factors.

Houston struggled with drug and alcohol issues for many years before her death.

The soulful British singer and her backing band taped their “Unplugged” concert in New York’s oldest synagogue building back in December to become the first of eight episodes airing across MTV and sister networks Vh1 and CMT. The Civil Wars and Dierks Bentley also are slated to perform during the new season.

Backed by a 10-person choir, The Voices of Rivers, Welch performed fan favorites such as “Drumming Song” from her group’s 2009 debut “Lungs,” as well as the single “Never Let Me Go” from her most recent record, “Ceremonials.”

“I had to stop myself after every song,” Welch told Reuters. “I would be like, ‘Wow.’ It was so amazing performing the songs stripped back and just really being able to concentrate on the songs and the emotions,” said Welch.

The appearance will tie in with the Nationals competition where she may be playing herself as a judge.

Often mocked on the show, notably by Gwenyth Paltrow, the move is a surprise to come, but may be a smart choice.

“Glee” may indicate that Lohan’s music career is on the right path as well. Lohan does have two Top 20 albums to her name including 2004′s No. 4-peaking “Speak.”

Cocaine Contributed to Whitney Houston’s Death

Posted in Celebrity, Music, Music news with tags , , , , , , , , , , on March 23, 2012 by thebestmusicnow

According to spokesman Craig Harvey, Whitney Houston, 48, had cocaine in her system and that it contributed directly to her death. Marijuana, Xanax and Flexeril, a muscle relaxant, were also found but did not contribute to her death. He says the results indicated Houston was a chronic cocaine user. The just-released coroner’s report states Houston was found submerged in a bathtub filled with water and lists “cocaine intake” as a cause of the injury.

Beverly Hills police said in a statement there was no evidence of wrongdoing in connection with Houston’s death. Officials had previously confirmed that prescription pills were found in the room, but no mention of cocaine.

A TMZ source that is connected to the investigation calls it “very possible” that Houston suffered a heart attack that led her to lose consciousness in the bathtub.

“We are saddened to learn of the toxicology results, although we are glad to now have closure,’ said Patricia Houston, the singer’s sister-in-law and manager.
