Rihanna Sues Former Accountants

Posted in Celebrity, Music with tags , , on July 13, 2012 by thebestmusicnow

Superstar Rihanna has sued her former accountants for mismanaging the singer’s finances, including claiming they earned huge commissions from concert tours that resulted in her losing millions of dollars.

In a lawsuit filed in Manhattan federal court that surfaced on Thursday, the 24-year-old singer and her tour company, Tourihanna, is seeking an unspecified amount of compensatory damages and loss of earnings from accountancy firm Berdon LLP and former employees Michael Mitnick and Peter Gounis.

The suit, first filed late in Tuesday ahead of the July 4 U.S. holiday, claims the accounting firm caused “significant financial losses” between 2005 and 2010 by charging “exorbitant” commissions from Rihanna’s 2010 “Last Girl on Earth Tour.” It also accuses Berdon of mishandling Rihanna’s foreign and domestic taxes and failing to monitor unpaid song royalties.

Rihanna Defends Chris Brown Collaboration

Rihanna says that her collaboration with Chris Brown on the “Birthday Cake” remix “made sense” and it’s “innocent.”

Rihanna also appears on a remix of his “Turn up the Music.” Their music union is noteworthy because Brown beat up Rihanna three years ago and is still on probation for the assault.

Talking to Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show in Los Angeles, Rihanna says it was her idea for Brown to appear on her song because he’s “the hottest R&B artist” right now. He then asked her to be on his song.

She says, “There shouldn’t be a divide. … It’s music, and it’s innocent.”

As talk of a Whitney Houston biopic grows, Rihanna is considered a frontrunner to play the late singer. The Daily Mail reports that Whitney’s music mentor Clive Davis is helming the project and he reportedly wants filming to begin as soon as possible.

Some of the others in contention for the lead include “Dreamgirls” actress/singer Jennifer Hudson, who sang a heartfelt “I Will Always Love You” tribute at the 2012 Grammys, Vivica Fox, Megan Good and “American Idol” alum Jordin Sparks, who shared the screen with Houston in the upcoming flick “Sparkle.” There’s also talk that pint-sized Willow Smith may play a young Whitney.

The superstar singer died on February 11 in Los Angeles. The cause of death is still unknown. She was 48 years old.

Chris Brown Under Investigation in Miami

Miami officials on Thursday said they are investigating R&B singer Chris Brown for violating his probation due to a robbery of a young woman’s cell phone. Brown is currently on probation for assaulting ex-girlfriend Rihanna.

A 24-year-old woman filed a police report in Miami Beach this past Sunday for “robbery by snatching” and that Brown was the culprit.

The report from TMZ said the woman tried to take pictures of the singer as he was leaving a nightclub and Brown took her iPhone and drove away.

Miami Beach police did not immediately return calls for comment, nor did Brown’s representatives.

But Florida state attorney in Miami-Dade County, Katherine Fernandez Rundle, issued a statement late Thursday to address “erroneous reports … regarding the Miami Beach Police Department’s investigation of singer Chris Brown.”

“My prosecutors are currently speaking with witnesses and reviewing all of the materials supplied by Miami Beach Police. Only after these reviews have been completed would any type of action be considered or taken,” Rundle said in the statement.

22 year old Chris Brown is currently midway through a five-year probation after pleading guilty to criminal assault for beating ex-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009. If arrested again, Brown risks being jailed for probation violation.

On Monday night, Chris Brown and Rihanna dropped the remix to Ri’s “Birthday Cake,” from her Talk That Talk album. The duo also dropped a remix of Brown’s Fortune track “Turn Up the Music,” all on Rihanna’s 24th birthday.

The producers behind the “Cake” track, Da Internz, promised that the remix would “shock,” and they didn’t lie. Considering that it was just three years ago that Brown assaulted Rihanna over Grammy weekend, the two coming together for the sexy duet marks a new chapter for the singers.

How do you feel about the two reuniting?

Rihanna Tops Lady Gaga as Most Viewed Female on YouTube

Posted in Celebrity, Music, Music news with tags , , , , , , , , , , on January 23, 2012 by thebestmusicnow

Pop princess Rihanna has now passed Lady Gaga in total number of YouTube views, making her the most-viewed female recording artist on the go-to video viewing network. Over the weekend, RiRi boasted 2,068,076,591 (yeah, that’s billion with a capital “B”) official views to Gaga’s 2,044,728,691. Digital Journal reports Rihanna has been attracting over 3,000,000 views daily for most of the late fall and early winter on the strength of her singles from Talk That Talk, including an impressive 115.3 million views for her chart-topping smash “We Found Love.”

Gaga, by comparison, has seen her YouTube dominance dwindle. Recent singles “You and I” (49.4 million) and “Marry the Night” (31.3 million) are far from her 2010-11 peak, when one-time record holder “Bad Romance” commanded a staggering 443 million views and songs like “Telephone” (132.1 million), “Alejandro” (162.5 million) and “Born This Way” (88.3 million) regularly tallied massive numbers.

Neither starlet, however, has been able to catch up to the young king of YouTube, Justin Bieber, who has 2,275,845,406 views.

Late last year, Rihanna leapt past Janet Jackson and Stevie Wonder on the list of artists with the most #1 singles when “We Found Love” topped the charts, becoming her 11th #1 and tying her with Whitney Houston. Only the Supremes, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, Mariah Carey and the Beatles have more chart-toppers. The single also helped the pop star make Billboard history as the solo artist to reach 20 top tens the fastest. It took her six years and four months to reach that total, five less than it took Madonna

Katy Perry and Russell Brand Divorce Details

On Friday, Russell Brand filed for divorce from his pop-star wife, Katy Perry, after only a year of marriage. Details about the breakup are beginning to emerge.

Sources told Us Weekly that the couple always fought, but in the time leading up to the divorce filing, the arguments had gotten more heated, leading to one “massive fight.”

“She was like, ‘F— you. I’m going to do my own thing.’ Russell replied, ‘Fine, f— you too,’ ” the source explained.

The couple had been having problems for some time, and after trying to make it work, TMZ sources add that “it just wasn’t there” anymore. Brand eventually filed for divorce first due to Perry’s strong religious beliefs and background.

Other reports suggest that Brand and Perry may have had differing views about how they wanted to live their lives. The Daily Mail reports that recovering drug addict Brand didn’t approve of Perry’s friends (like fellow pop star Rihanna). He had reportedly asked her to “tone it down.”

Whatever happens next for these two, the comedian noted in a statement that he hoped to remain friends with Perry. “Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I will always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.” Perry has not commented since the news broke.

Rihanna Reacts to Dutch Mag’s Racial Slur

Posted in Celebrity with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on December 20, 2011 by thebestmusicnow

Rihanna has taken to Twitter to react to a fashion writer’s comments in a recent issue of the Dutch magazine Jackie. In addition to referring to Rihanna as the “ultimate n—abitch,” the article states that the singer is from Jamaica, when she is actually from the Barbados.

While readers were shocked by the magazine’s language, description of the singer and factual inaccuracies, which have been translated, the singer herself called the magazine out for the comments.

“I hope u can read english, because your magazine is a poor representation of the evolution of human rights! I find you disrespectful and rather desperate!! You ran out of legit, civilized information to print!” she wrote on Twitter. “There are 1000′s of Dutch girls who would love to be recognized for their contributions to your country, you could have given them an article. Instead, u paid to print one degrading an entire race! That’s your contribution to this world! To encourage segregation, to mislead the future leaders to act in the past! You put two words together, with the intent of abasement, that made no sense … ‘N—a Bitch’?!….Well with all respect, on behalf of my race, here are my two words for you … F— YOU!!!”

The magazine has taken to Facebook to issue an apology for the use of the racial slur, with a note from its editor-in-chief, Eva Hoeke. “First: thanks for all your responses. We are of course very fed up over this and especially very shocked. However I’m glad that we’re engaging in a dialogue on this page — not everybody does that. Thanks for this. Other than that I can be brief about this: this should have never happened. Period,” Hoeke wrote.

“While the author meant no harm — the title of the article was intended as a joke — it was a bad joke, to say the least. And that slipped through my, the editor-in-chief’s, fingers. Stupid, painful and sucks for all concerned. The author has been addressed on it, and now I can only ensure that these terms will no longer end up in the magazine,” the statement continued.

“Furthermore I hope that you all believe there was absolutely no racist motive behind the choice of words. It was stupid, it was naive to think that this was an acceptable form of slang — you hear it all the time on tv and radio, then your idea of what is normal apparently shifts — but it was especially misguided: there was no malice behind it. We make our magazine with love, energy and enthusiasm, and it can sometimes happen that someone is out of line. And then you can only do one thing: apologize. And hope that others wish to accept it. From the bottom of my heart I say it again: we never intended to offend anyone. And I mean that.”
