Seal and Heidi Klum Confirm Split After 7-Year Marriage

Supermodel Heidi Klum and her pop star husband, Seal, are separating, the couple have confirmed.

“While we have enjoyed seven very loving, loyal and happy years of marriage, after much soul-searching we have decided to separate,” Seal and Klum wrote in a joint statement.

“We have had the deepest respect for one another throughout our relationship and continue to love each other very much, but we have grown apart. This is an amicable process and protecting the well-being of our children remains our top priority, especially during this time of transition.

“We thank our family, friends, and fans for their kind words of support. And for our children’s sake, we appreciate you respecting our privacy.”

Klum, 38, and Seal, 48 married in May 2005, and between their fondness for filming sexy-time music videos (“Secret”) and renewing their vows annually (in as lavish a fashion possible), the couple has long given the picture of a happy Hollywood couple with a happy Hollywood family. Seal adopted Klum’s daughter from a previous relationship, and the couple has had three children together since then, with the brood of four ranging in age from 7 to 2.

Klum appeared at last weekend’s Golden Globes solo, though TMZ was first to suggest rumours of a split, reporting Saturday that Klum would file divorce papers within the week citing “irreconcilable differences,” a story that was subsequently followed up — and downplayed — by Us Weekly and People. (Sources told both mags that divorce wasn’t yet being considered, though one friend told Us Weekly that “they’ve had a very rough road lately. They’re either madly in love or having crazy fights.”)

Seal and Klum first started dating in 2003, while Klum was pregnant with her daughter Leni. Months earlier, she’d split from Italian businessman Flavio Briatore. Klum had previously been married to stylist Ric Pipino from 1997 to 2002.
