Steven Tyler Says Goodbye to American Idol

American Idol judge and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler decided on Thursday to leave his job as a judge on top-rated television singing contest “American Idol.”

Tyler expressed that his reason for leaving is due to needing to return to focusing on his first love, Aerosmith.

Tyler’s fellow “American Idol” judge, Jennifer Lopez, also is contemplating whether to return to the program that once reigned supreme atop U.S. TV ratings but has seen its audience shrink in recent years.

“I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I’m back,” the band’s lead singer said in a statement.

“I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress ‘American Idol’ before she boils my rabbit,” Tyler added, in a reference to the thriller movie, “Fatal Attraction.” “I got two fists in the air, and I’m kicking the door open with my band.”

Jennifer Hudson Speaks out about Recovering after Family’s Death

Jennifer Hudson surprised many when, just months after a family tragedy that saw her mother, brother and nephew murdered, she returned to the stage to sing the Star-Spangled Banner at Super Bowl XLIII.

But as the “Dreamgirls” star and former “American Idol” favorite sees it, she didn’t have a choice — her murdered brother wouldn’t have it any other way.

Hudson appears on the January 8 edition of NBC’s “Dateline” to discuss the tragedy, among other topics, and tells the show’s Lester Holt that she heard her brother Jason’s voice, which urged her to undertake the comeback performance.

“I felt as though I had to,” Hudson tells Holt. “ust the same as I hear my mother’s voice in my head, I can hear my brother’s voice in my head. And he– they, like, everybody, it’s like, is she ever gonna sing again? Is she gonna– you know? And what was I gonna say to that– I could hear him, like, ‘Jennifer–‘ he would always say, ‘Knock it off, Jenny,’ if I was cryin’ about somethin’ or if I was upset, discouraged, mad, ‘Jenny, knock it off.’ That’s what I hear in my head. And it’s like, ‘Okay, well, what they want me to do? I can either just sit here and mope around, or do what I know that would make them proud.’ And that’s what I did.”

Hudson’s mother, Darnell Donerson, along with her brother Jason, were found shot to death in Donerson’s Chicago home on October 24, 2008; Donerson was 57, and Jason 29. After a search, Hudson’s 7-year-old nephew, Julian King, was found in a parked car, after dying of what the medical examiner’s office determined to be multiple gunshot wounds. William Balfour, the estranged husband of Hudson’s sister Julia, pleaded not guilty to the murders and awaits trial in February.

Steven Tyler Engaged to Girlfriend

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler and his girlfriend of five years, Erin Brady, got engaged over the holidays, the rocker’s go-to jewelry maker has confirmed.

Reports that the “American Idol” judge, 63, had popped the question emerged after the 38-year-old Brady was spotted flashing a large engagement ring on her left hand over the weekend. Neither have responded to requests for comment, but jeweler Loree Rodkin was more than willing to give details, telling PEOPLE the proposal was a surprise.

“He was working, so I picked stones, built settings, showed him choices and sent him pictures on his phone,” she told the magazine. “He asked for guidance but the choice was his. Having made jewelry for both Erin and Steven made it an effortless process, as I know their taste.”

According to Rodkin, the ring is a 5-carat, brilliant-cut diamond that is laid out on a diamond-and-platinum band. The perpetually bejeweled Tyler has been a client of Rodkin’s for years.

Tyler popped the question during a vacation in Hawaii. He has been married twice before, first to model Cyrinda Foxe, from 1978 to 1987, then to clothing designer Teresa Barrick, from 1988 to 2006.

American Idol Winner Lee DeWyze to Release Debut Album Live It Up Nov 16

Last May, Lee DeWyze thrilled millions of fans when he was crowned the Season 9 winner of American Idol. Now the wait is over for original music from this self-taught singer, songwriter, and guitarist, who will release his major-label debut album, Live It Up, on November 16 on 19 Recordings/RCA Records. Lee’s first single “Live It Up” will debut ‘On Air with Ryan Seacrest’ October 13.

“Putting out an album on a major label is truly a dream come true,” says 24-year-old DeWyze, a native of Mount Prospect, IL, who had built up a sizeable following on the Chicago club scene when he first auditioned for Idol in June 2009 at the urging of his bandmates. He was the only male contestant never to land in the competition’s bottom three contestants. “I’m excited for all the people who supported me throughout Idol to hear what I can do with my own songs. The album shows a whole different side of me and I’m so proud of it.”

Working with top-notch collaborators such as Toby Gad, John Shanks, and Espionage, to name a few, DeWyze co-wrote most of the songs on Live It Up, which he recorded while on the road over the summer with the American Idols Live Tour. “To see my name listed in the credits on each song was really important to me because I’m a songwriter,” DeWyze says, “I also loved working with such talented writers. They all brought so much to the table and really helped me flesh out my sound.”

Live It Up is an engaging blend of rootsy pop, rock and folk, anchored by DeWyze’s soulful, rough-edged voice and bright-sounding acoustic guitar. “I grew up listening to Simon & Garfunkel, The Mamas & the Papas, Cat Stevens, and Kris Kristofferson,” DeWyze says. “I love hard-edged vocals over pretty melodies — that’s what I’m about. I really admire guys like Dave Matthews and Ray LaMontagne, and to now be on the same record label as them — it just blows my mind.”

More details about Live It Up will be announced soon. For more about Lee, please visit

Troubled singer Fantasia Barrino will be hitting the road for a tour in November just three months after her failed suicide attempt.

The former “American Idol” star survived a drug overdose on August 9 and later shocked fans by revealing the scare wasn’t an accident and she meant to take her own life.

Barrino was quick to move forward with her music career; she took the first step toward putting the incident behind her with a Las Vegas concert on August 27 – her first performance after the suicide attempt – and the singer is pushing through her personal struggles by diving back into work.

Barrino will kick off the 30-city Back to Me tour in Richmond, Virginia on November 4.

Announcing the news, she says, “I’m so excited about this tour and having the chance to connect with my fans, the people that love me and have been supporting me through everything. This tour is going to be a real special, intimate experience for them and for me.”
